The lowest price might not be the best price.

Everyone wants to get the best possible computing equipment at a low price. As a result, many of the manufacturers in the market are producing computers that have a low initial price tag, but lack in quality or service.

You don't need to have computer failures that result in loss of the things that matter to you. If you're a home user you don't want to lose things like your pictures, perhaps your child's homework or perhaps your check register.

If you're a business user, poor performance costs you productivity, and failure of a computer resulting in data loss may cost you profits!

There are other costs that are more subtle. Some of the cheapest models are the least "green". Components might contain lead. Power supplies and power usage of the equipment could be inefficient that waste energy and computer lifespan.

Support should also a big part of your decision making. If you think you'll need help at some point, you might want to make sure that it will be intelligible; 'nuff said.

Finally, keep in mind the most valuable part of your computer experience is between the keyboard and the chair....It's you! You deserve the best....for now and tomorrow.

Avoid the virus and spyware trap!

These days it takes more than antivirus and spyware protection. It also takes Internet street smarts.

According to IDG group 1 in 1000 websites are poisoned with some sort of drive-by download or Trojan horse virus.

To compound the problem bogus security software offers come at users masked as legitimate windows error messages. Click in the ad and you're infected with their Trojan.

Here's how to avoid most of these bugs:

-Don't let your antivirus subscription expire!

- If you get messages that does not originate from your antivirus software be sure to click the Outer red X to close the ad If the message keeps coming back bring it in to be debugged.

- There is nothing under the sun that is truly free. Period! Illegal downloads and free pictures, music, screensavers and the like will often come with a side order of adware.
